Shannon the day after: QB situation up in air
A day after the embarrassing 51-13 loss at Oklahoma, coach Randy Shannon said he hasn't determined a starting quarterback for this weekend's game against FIU.
"I don't know yet," Shannon said. "We have to keep working with both of those guys.
Shannon started Kirby Freeman against the Sooners, but after he was ineffective brought in Kyle Wright midway through the second quarter.
Wright led two scoring drives but then faltered and was replaced by Freeman at the end of the third quarter. Freeman played the rest of the way and finished hitting on just three of nine passes for 17 yards.
Shannon says he made the decisions to pull the quarterbacks in conjunction with offensive coordinator Patrick Nix.
Why did they initially pull Freeman?
"We felt like during the game Kyle need an opportunity to come in and ignite the offense a little bit," Shannon said. "Kirby was doing adequate, but not good enough to get us going. Kyle did some good things. In the second half both quarterbacks went stale."
