Prep Roundup: Ray powers Rice

Player of the week:

  • ATH Caulton Ray of Brother Rice High School

Ray did not have a huge night, 100 yards on 26 carries and two touchdowns, but he was the difference in the Warriors 24-0 victory over Pennsylvania powerhouse Penn Hills.

Brother Rice traveled five and half hours to play the #5 ranked team in Pennsylvania (4A biggest classification). Rice had to schedule this game due to not being allowed to play in the Kirk Herbstreit Ohio vs. USA Challenge.

Ray had touchdown runs of 15 and 5 yards and helped keep the chains and clock moving my getting several key first downs. The win gives Brother Rice plenty of momentum as they again hit the road next week to play perennial Ohio powerhouse Cincinnati Moeller.

You can be sure that Ray will once again be the focus of the opposition's defense. The question is will it make a difference? The past two weeks teams have stacked the box to shut down Ray and he has still managed to get his yards.

  • DE Tyler Hoover of Novi High School:

The Wildcats lost another tough game, this time to KVC opponent Milford by a score of 29-21. Milford is ranked the #5 team in Michigan by the Detroit News. The Wildcats are probably the best 0-2 team in Michigan. They hope to turn the tide next week when they take on Pinckney.
