The Legion of Doom returns in 2007
It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's not Superman. It's the Legion of Doom.
Texas A&M returns one of the top tandems in the nation at tight end with junior Martellus Bennett and senior Joey Thomas. The only duo that might give the Aggies a run is also in the Big 12 conference at Missouri, but the Tigers lack the charismatic leader that Bennett is for the Aggies.
Bennett, who came up with the moniker Legion of Doon for the tight ends and is the self-appointed CEO, is heading into his junior season with plenty of eyes on him from fans, coaches and NFL scouts. Bennett brings rare abilities to the field for a tight end. First, he is a dominant blocker and a huge threat in the passing game. Second, he is 6-foot-7, 260 pounds and has great hands, which is evident if you watched him play basketball the last two seasons for the Aggies.
Third, he's one of the few players in sports that can back up all his chatter on the field.
"He brings a great spirit to practice and he has fun," said A&M head coach Dennis Franchione. "I admire guys that can have fun working hard. A guy that can bring a sense of humor while working hard is going to spread that to the rest of the team, and enthusiasm comes from there."
