August 27, 2007's preseason camp awards

Offensive MVP
Brian Stamper- was solid in one-on-ones, scrimmages and healthy.

Defensive MVP
DJ Moore- could go to a number of people but Moore showed great signs of improvement and has picked off at least six passes in the practices I've seen.

Best Offensive Newcomer
Austin Monahan/Udom Umoh- could be a tie. Monahan looks like he could help TE's, Umoh has shown he's a different receiver than most of his teammates.

Best Defensive Newcomer
John Stokes- Has impressed since day one while working at SAM. Intellegent player, great skill, has earned his chance to play this year.

Offensive Surprise
Justin Wheeler- Growth from last year to this year has really seemed tremendous. Could break camp as No.5 receiver. Confidence seems high...always one of the most talented athletes on the team.

Defensive Surprise
Might be a stretch but Myron Lewis. Most players did what was expected of them, but Lewis could be seen as a surprise because he didn't play much last year but has made a strong claim for PT this year and has done so with a good camp.

Biggest Offensive question mark
Not much of one other than how will the tight ends
H-backs be used. Will VU throw them, will they use two-TE's more, will H-back truly be the hybrid position it has been in the past?

Biggest Defensive question mark
Defensive tackle rotation situation. With Billinger and Smotherman slowed by injury...will the loss of snaps affect their effectiveness? Is Smotherman really going to be the Holmes? Can he produce...will a No.5 or even No.6 be able to be relied upon?

Best Camp by position
Offensive Line. Defensive line challenged them for most of the camp...front line looks as good as it's been since coaching staff has been here, and 2nd team looks like another strong five that can provide depth. Unit could be as many as 12 deep right now.
