New Blood on offense

When the South Carolina Gamecocks take the field for their Sept. 1st season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette, most key contributors from their 2006 team that went 8-5 will be on the field. Technically, 10 of 11 starters are back on defense and seven offensive players also return. However, Steve Spurrier and his assistant coaches are also going to have a large group of talented newcomers at their disposal, and some may find themselves in the starting lineup sooner rather than later.

Offensively, the position where Gamecock fans can expect to see the most number of new faces is at the wide receiver position. Carolina signed six wideouts in their class of 2007, including five high school stars, and it's quite possible all of them could contribute this year. At the very least, Larry Freeman, Jason Barnes, and Chris Culliver are set to make their presence felt this season. Joseph Hills looked like a strong candidate to avoid redshirting prior to injuring his knee early in fall practice, and it remains to be seen whether he'll recover in time to push for playing time this season. Matt Clements and Dion Lecorn have also turned some heads and at least one of the two is likely to break into the rotation in 2007.
