Practice Notebook: Bines steps up
Summer practice is now in full swing and position battles are heating up. This week, head Coach Greg Schiano is looking for players to step up as the team's first date with Buffalo draws near.
"It's going to be a tough week," said Schiano. "It's kind of the dog days of camp. It's not the beginning anymore where it's new and exciting. We're also not yet in game week where you're getting ready for a team. The challenge lies upon them this week to really stay focused on getting better."
Who's got the Mike?
The battle for the middle linebacker position wages on. Blair Bines is now running with the first team defense.
"It's an indication that we let Quaye have the first week at the first Mike and now we're going to let Bines work with the one-defense and see if it changes anything. Right now, no one's grasped it. We got Renk enough reps that if we need to do it game week, we're still able to do that. But right now, we're trying to get the other guys all the repetitions at Mike to see which one of them can surface. Renk's played the other position a whole thirteen games and we'd like to leave him there if we could," said Schiano.
The future looked on
Art Forst and Eric LeGrand were both on-hand to watch Monday's practice. The future Scarlet Knights are two of the most physically impressive specimens of next year's recruiting class.
