GPC practice preview

Kansas State will hold its first of two open practices during fall training camp when the Wildcats travel to the College Boulevard Activities Center in Olathe on Saturday. Coach Ron Prince calls it "a change in scenery," but the practice and fan appreciation day is expected to bring purple. And lots of it.

Some things change, like the depth chart that Prince and his staff continues to shift daily, but some things don't change: will be in attendance and throughout the ensuing week will provide the white-knuckle content, hard-hitting analysis and player features readers have come to expect.

The event at the 6,000-capacity CBAC football stadium is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. The practice is free and will conclude with an autograph session. Standing room will be available along the edge of the facility with the exception of the north end. Concession items will be available with proceeds benefiting the Olathe School District Athletic Department.

"I think it will give us a good break in a different venue with obviously a little more pressure," Prince said. "I like to get the kids in front of people to practice and play as often as I can. The content and style of the practice will have the coaches obviously nervous and on edge because they'll want to do a good job as well. When you're the head coach you have to keep that in mind as well, so I'll be evaluating our coaches and how prepared we are for that practice. I think it'll be exciting.

"I grew up going to Liberty to watch the Chiefs training camp and since the Chiefs have their training camp in Wisconsin, we might as well go up and have our practice in Kansas City K-State style."
