Final summer hotlist counted down

The Oklahoma Sooners are getting into full swing as today is the first official day of summer. And it's time to take stock of the hottest players in the Sooner program.

SoonerScoop.com Editor Carey Murdock gives part one of his Summer Hot List countdown based on several factors. He took the season-ending performances, coupled with spring performances, and overall work ethic into account before coming up with his version of the hot list.

This list gives our prediction on which players are most likely to make the biggest impact next season as summer heads into full swing. This is our final countdown edition before we make our evaluations following fall practices.

Some of these names may surprise you, but it all makes sense when you read the reasons why each of these players deserve special recognition.

6. Reggie Smith - Smith has been so much higher on this list in recent years because of his big-play ability on special teams.

The good news is that those highlights will still be there for Smith in 2007. And if he can remain at the cornerback position, he should be healthier than ever and more capable of making big plays more consistently.

Smith was banged up to end last season. He had chipped a bone in his leg and the pain was difficult for him to endure.

Even when the bone eventually healed, you could tell Smith wasn't the same player late in the year. And that's why he's listed lower on this list than he has been in the past.

Expect to see Smith pass up several players on this list once the season gets into full swing.
