Manuel praises FSU
Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside quarterback E.J. Manuel took a much-awaited unofficial visit to Florida State this past Friday and Saturday. The five-star signal-caller has always listed FSU as one of his favorites. How did the visit go?
"It was great, I had a very good time," said the 6-foot-4, 201-pounder. "The area was really nice, the campus was awesome and the coaches were great. I've seen coach Fisher a few times and this was a chance to really get to know him, coach Bowden, coach Lilly and everyone."
Manuel came away impressed with the family atmosphere at FSU.
"They are all very tight there," he said. "They emphasize family which is important to me because I'm that kind of person. I want to be part of more than just a team. I got a good feeling from them."
And the chance to play early at FSU is also excellent.
"They laid it out for me," he said. "By the time I'd arrive Drew (Weatherford) and X (Xavier Lee) would be done with their junior seasons and after those guys I'd be competing with D'Vontrey Richardson and Christian Ponder. I'd have a good chance to come in and compete right away."
Manuel is also interested in the opportunity to play for Jimbo Fisher.
"Coach Fisher has a great reputation with quarterbacks and I like his offensive style," he said. "The offense would be a good fit for me there.
So what's next for the nation's No. 2 quarterback?
"I'm not really sure," he said. "I'm going to relax for a few days and then figure that out. I've been to a few places and there are other schools I'd like to see, but I don't know what the plan is just yet.
Was he tempted to commit at FSU?
"There's always that temptation," he said. "Every visit is great and FSU was no exception. It's such a big decision that I want to take my time with everything and take in as much as I can."
Manuel said his list of 11 schools -- Alabama, Boston College, Florida State, LSU, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, Oregon, Penn State, Rutgers and Tennessee -- has not changed and he still remains open. He's now visited FSU, LSU, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, Rutgers and Penn State.
