Auburn commit excels on and off the field

When Columbus (Ga.) Carver quarterback Deron Furr steps onto the football field, most observers marvel at his arm strength and athleticism.

But what stands out most to Carver head coach Dell McGee is what Furr does off the field and in the huddle.

"He's got a good work ethic. He's a good character guy with two good parents in the home," said McGee. "They really taught him the basics as far as being a good person.

"That's what stands out the most along with his leadership skills and wanting the ball in crunch time. He's a very competitive young man."

Furr showed that competitiveness and leadership in the playoffs last fall, leading Carver to the Class 3A semi-finals, their best finish in years.
