Southern Invitational 2008-09 Class Player Evals
Class of 2008:
Ed Davis, 6'8", Forward, Mechanicsville, VA, Benedictine HS
He is ranked 5th nationally in the latest Rivals150 Rankings for the class of 2008. Davis is a low post scorer with excellent shot-blocking and rebounding abilities too. He displayed a jumper with range to 10 ft but didn't need to take any shots longer than that. He shot the ball very efficiently - converting the vast majority of his FG opportunities. Gets to the FT line repeatedly and generally converts. Loves to finish strong - dunking with authority at every opportunity. Should be a fabulous college 4-man with the ability to play some minutes at the 5 as well. Quick off his feet to bock shots. Gets good rebounding position on the defensive glass. Actively makes himself available for the entry pass. His passing skills and handle are good for a low post player. Davis has told several sources that he expects to visit Villanova. Virginia and Connecticut are at the top of his list at this stage.
Class of 2009:
Isaiah Armwood, 6'8", Forward, Baltimore, MD, Montrose Christian
Armwood has advanced his game considerably since ABCD Camp in July 2006. He is skinny, agile, and has good ups. He drained three-balls, elbow jumpers, and 16 footers on the wing. He can get to the rim in transition or off 2-bounce dribble moves in the half-court. He posted a 13 point, 10 rebound game on Saturday but played somewhat erratically on Sunday in the championship game of the 16s Gold bracket. Great upside as he fills out and continues to hone his skills. A more consistent jumper from range and more bulk are needed. Projects as a 4-man in Coach Jay Wright's system at 'Nova. His list includes Louisville, Maryland, Syracuse and Villanova. He is ranked in the 2009: Rivals Hoops Top 25 Rankings.
