Rosario is a big catch for Rutgers

You don't win NCAA championships in the recruiting game, the pundits will tell you.

Go ahead. Try to explain that to a school that hasn't tasted the NCAA tournament since 1991. Try telling that to a state that is routinely invaded by the likes of Rick Pitino, John Calipari and Coach K, or any coach knee-deep in summer recruiting war games.

But you get the feeling now, since Fred Hill Jr. has arrived as coach and notable Jersey guy, the perimeters surrounding the Garden State appear heavily guarded for the foreseeable future.

So in a very significant decision, one recruit set-off a sparkling 2008 recruiting campaign in Scarlet Nation, opting to stay home instead of playing at Marquette or Miami.

Junior shooting guard Mike Rosario, one of the most athletic players on one of the deepest teams in New Jersey, gave a verbal agreement to coach Fred Hill Jr. and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights yesterday, and will play in the Big East beginning in 2008.
