Patchan watches spring practice

All the attention from college coaches is great, Seffner Armwood offensive tackle Matt Patchan said, but he can only accept one scholarship offer and that is what puts him on an equal playing field with every other prospect.

Patchan currently has about 43 offers, including ones from Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Miami (Fla.), Ole Miss and Nebraska. The 6-foot-6, 247-pound prospect is not your everyday football recruit.

He's one of the best in the nation and has been rated in the Rivals.com 100 to watch in 2008. But Patchan said he wants to keep a level head and not think he is any more important than any other prospect.

"I may have 119 scholarships before it's all over," Patchan said. "That doesn't matter. I'm going to take one scholarship and one only. There may be a person in Gainesville or Miami or wherever, and his one offer is to the University of Florida or Miami or Alabama and as soon as we get to college we're on the same field.
