McCoy, Tennell emerging in spring football

With spring break giving the OU football team an early rest, Editor Carey Murdock takes a look back at the early part of spring practices to give an inside look of how things are shaping up in Norman. The highs and lows are just beginning, but here's a look at what's really happening inside spring football.

What players have made the biggest jumps in the early spring practices?

Coaches don't like to brag on players too much this early in spring practices, but two players who have been receiving rave reviews early are Adron Tennell and Brandon Caleb.

Some fans questioned whether either player benefited from playing last year instead of saving that extra year of eligibility.

As far as Tennell is concerned, one coach told me that they never expected him to stick around Norman for five years anyway. They thought he was too good a player coming out of high school.

Just think of what it would have meant to have Malcolm Kelly coming off his redshirt freshman season in 2006. Would any of you think Kelly would have been around for a fifth season in Norman?

Coaches feel the same way about Tennell.
