One year ago, neither of LSU's starters on the right side of the offensive line could foresee himself in his current situation.
Guard Lyle Hitt was participating in his first spring practice as a defensive tackle. Tackle Carnell Stewart was in the process of making the switch from defense to offense.
Now, the two former defensive linemen are trying to hold off all the challengers in order to remain in the starting lineup. After six spring workouts, both Hitt and Stewart are maintaining their spot at the top of the depth chart at their respective positions.
It is well known that defensive linemen normally have more natural talents than their counterparts on the offensive front. LSU coach Les Miles, a former offensive lineman, sees that quality in both Hitt and Stewart.
"Lyle has a real advantage athletically on offense," Miles said.
