Young stars shine in Cooper-Benilde SM contest

In the regular season finale for both teams, Benilde-St. Margaret's defeated Cooper 77-75 as the clutch play of Jordan Taylor took over late once again. Jordan scored 35 points while teammate Armond Battle produced 20. In defeat, outstanding Cooper sophomore Rodney Williams Jr. scored 29 points including several monster dunks.

Just one year ago Cooper won the North Suburban Conference beating BSM in the last game of the year at Cooper. Now a year later, the Red Knights found a measure of revenge beating their rivals in the final seconds. A year ago Jordan Taylor was a sophomore being hounded by Jermain Davis (likely the best defender in state last year) having a frustrating game but his growth in a year was clear last night.

Taylor was attacking off the bounce, absorbing contact and finishing inside plus Jordan's three-point shot looks much better. And the pair of tall, lanky, athletic young wings in this game have also taken their game to another level. Rodney Williams Jr. was a freshman playing a supporting role but is now the go-to offensive player for Cooper and Armond Battle is taking the ball hard to the basket regularly these days.
