Hoops Notebook: Tide, Bulldogs fight for West

This Sunday that Crimson Tide will close out their season as they have for the past several years, facing their geographically closest rival Mississippi State. Though neither team is in contention for the SEC Championship, a share of the Western Division title will be awarded to the winner of the game as well as a first-round bye in the upcoming SEC Tournament.

Alabama head coach Mark Gottfried knows that with or without any of the extra implications, a meeting between the Tide and Bulldogs is always a big deal.

"We've got a lot of respect for them," Gottfried said. "I think at times this season they've played as well as anybody in the conference. Obviously, they're very athletic and very good and (MSU head coach) Rick Stansbury has done a great job. Our guys are feeling a little bit better since we've won a game and we look forward to this weekend."
