Dixon keeps an eye on recruits

The Pitt hoops team had Wednesday off, so head coach Jamie Dixon took the opportunity to check out one of his five 2007 signees, and tonight he'll do it once again.

"Yesterday we had the day off, so I went and watched Bradley play in the semi-finals," Dixon said Thursday.

That would be guard recruit Bradley Wanamaker, whose Roman Catholic team topped Dougherty 62-44 in the Philadelphia Catholic League semifinals. Wanamaker did his part for the victory, recording 22 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals (thanks to Putt12 for the stats). Next up for Wanamaker and Roman Catholic is the PCL championship game, when they will face rival Neumann Goretti.

Dixon added that assistant coach Mike Rice took the off-day as a chance to go to Washington, D.C., and watch Darnell Dodson's Eleanor Roosevelt team beat Bladensburg. Dodson scored 22 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals (again, thanks Putt12). Eleanor Roosevelt is now set for the Maryland 4A South Region finals against C.H. Flowers.

Dixon said that he has not gotten a chance to see either of the Panthers' two center prospects, Gary McGhee and Cassin Diggs, but he has been keeping up with their respective teams' progress.
