Spring Preview: TEs
Texas A&M should feel downright giddy about the tight end position this year with Martellus Bennett and Joey Thomas back for one more season. Both players give A&M arguably the best tight end duo in the nation.
The leader of the self-proclaimed Legion of Doom is Bennett who an all-around juggernaut. A freak of an athlete, Bennett is very rare in that he is a complete tight end. He is a superb blocking tight end, and has the hands and moves of a wide receiver, which sometimes causes him to line up in the slot.
Thomas is reminiscent of former Aggie player Greg Porter in that it seems his hands are a vacuum that hauls in anything in his vicinity. He had injury problems last season after starting the year strong, and will hope to have a 100-percent healthy senior campaign that could see his numbers skyrocket.
Amos Gbunblee was moved around quite a lot last season as he played defensive end through training camp and for most of the season, but late in the year Gbunblee moved back to tight end. The move had more to do with Thomas' injury and depth issues at tight end than it did with Gbunblee's skills. He picked up the defensive end spot quickly and was good.
