Plenty of talent at Charlotte NIKE Combine

WINGATE, N.C.- Rain forced the cancellation of some running events at the Charlotte NIKE Combine on Sunday at Wingate University. An early look at '09

The Class of 2009 was well-represented at the event.

Linebacker Hawatha Bell of Matthews (N.C.) Butler attended the event along with several of his teammates. The 6-foot, 215-pounder has been a key part of his high school team's defense since his freshman season.

Defensive lineman Chris Bonds of Columbia (S.C.) Richland Northeast has been a key cog in his team's defense since his freshman year. The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder should be one of the top prospects in the Palmetto State in next year's class.

Massive lineman Arthur Hope of Laney High School in Augusta, Ga., passed the eyeball test without a doubt. The 6-foot-6, 300-pounder was one of the biggest prospects in attendance.

Two stars from Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe were in attendance. Running back Devin Wherry and quarterback Stephon Gilmore both are already hearing from Clemson and South Carolina, among others early in the process. South Point is a relatively new high school, which had its attendance zone carved out of Northwestern (Derek Jones, Jeff Burris among others) and Rock Hill High (Chris Hope, Ko Simpson, among others).
