Hoyas down tough, hot shooting Cincy
January 28, 2007 - The University of Cincinnati, despite having a new coaching staff and suffering personnel changes, have forged a 10-10 overall record (1-5 Big East) and caused plenty of trouble for opposing coaches.
Judging by Georgetown coach John Thompson III's comments that trend continued during the Hoyas' 82-67 victory before over 13,000 fans at Washington, D.C.'s Verizon Center.
"Whew," is how Thompson opened his post-game news conference before with Cincinnati's good shooting and tough play being the reasons.
Before the game, which boosted the Hoyas' record to 15-5 and their league mark to 5-2, Cincy had shot a pedestrian 40.7 percent from the field and 29.5 percent from 3-point land, marks both good for 15th in the 16-team Big East. Against Georgetown, the Bearcats sunk 48.9 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from 3-point land.
"Those guys could shoot," said Thompson, "particularly in the first half."
