Mike Stoops a part of OU bowl experience

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Sooners finished what they considered their 'Tuesday' game-week practice on Thursday at Pinnacle High School. The day was highlighted by a visit from former University of Oklahoma Head Coach Chuck Fairbanks.

Fairbanks, who was dressed head-to-toe in Sooner gear walked off the practice field flanked by Bob Stoops at the end of the day.

"It was great to see him," said Stoops of Fairbanks' visit. "He lives out in this area. He's a wonderful guy so it was fun having him out here a little bit."

It wasn't the first time Stoops has had a chance to talk with Fairbanks, who is most revered for bringing Barry Switzer to Norman as a member of his staff before leaving in 1972 to take over the New England Patriots head coaching duties.

"He's been out to Norman and out to our practices," Stoops said of his past meetings with Fairbanks. "He usually goes to visit his family around Thanksgiving. That's when we've had a chance to see him out there in past years."
