Samuels helps St. Benedictís advance

RALEIGH, N.C. - Samardo Samuels made a strong showing Wednesday night in the first round of Tournament play at the Glaxo-Smith-Kline Holiday Invitational, scoring 20 points in helping lead Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict's to a 74-48 victory over Raleigh (N.C.) Broughton. Afterwards, Samuels spoke with reporters.

The GSK Invitational is Samuels' first opportunity to play in the North Carolina Triangle region, although he was in the area back in October, where he took in UNC's "Late Night with Roy" festivities in the Smith Center.

As a sophomore, Samuels served as a role player for St. Benedict's, but this year, he is taking a much more active approach on both ends of the court.

Regarding his recruitment, Samuels revealed a short list of schools that are among his favorites, but it sounds as though he's in no hurry whatsoever to come to a decision. Florida, UNC and UConn are his favorites.
