NU Notes: Backs fight to get healthy for Saturday

Heading into Saturday's Big 12 Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, the Nebraska football team has some injury questions at running back that have yet to be answered.

Sophomores Marlon Lucky (back) and Cody Glenn (foot) continue to battle their way through injuries and NU head coach Bill Callahan said they both were backed down from practice on Wednesday.

"We backed Marlon down today," Callahan said. "We worked him out with our trainers today. I'm pretty optimistic that he'll play in that game. Cody (Glenn) is still nursing that sore foot and I'm confident that he'll be ready. The two linemen, Greg Austin (knee) and Matt Slauson (ankle) both practiced today."

Callahan said Lucky hurt his back in the Colorado game last Friday and he's received therapy on it the last few days from the NU medical staff.

"I know that after the game he kind of tweaked it a little bit and we'll get a better idea of how he's going to be tomorrow," Callahan said. "He was a little bit better today. He ran well, so again I'm optimistic that he'll be ready."

Tuesday and Wednesday are the only days Nebraska practices in shoulder pads during the week. On Thursday, NU will go in helmets only and running backs coach Randy Jordan said Lucky should be out on the practice field.
