Laws uncertain about fifth season
Trevor Laws will take an extra long look around Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday. It might be the last time he suits up for the Irish at home.
After the regular season wraps up with a trip to Los Angeles over Thanksgiving weekend, Laws will start exploring his NFL options. If the defensive tackle hears positive reports about the draft process, Laws might bypass a fifth season of eligibility to start earning a paycheck.
Laws said that before this season began, he assumed he'd return for a fifth year. But his impressive numbers, 50 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks this season, have prompted him to at least look around. The Minnesota native posted just 33 tackles all of last season.
"Knowing that it could be my last game makes you definitely feel everything more," Laws said. "I've been so much more productive this year. With our team success, a lot more people have noticed me. It's definitely different than last year."
The loss of Laws could devastate next year's defense. The Irish will lose Victor Abiamiri, Derek Landri, Chris Frome, Mike Richardson and Chinedum Ndukwe]. Tom Zbikowski also seems like a good bet to bypass a fifth season of eligibility.
