Samuels continues to list Georgetown

November 1, 2006 - As reported by HoyaReport.com on Aug. 20, junior power forward Samardo Samuels is considering attending Georgetown University in 2008. Several weeks ago, his mentor Steven Johnston provided some background and insight into Samardo's development and future plans.

Johnston indicated via telephone, while Samuels was growing up in Jamaica, the young guy "read a lot about the game" from coaching manuals, as well as "practiced outside against older players. The results of this early work were obvious to Johnston. "My organization, Jamaica Basketball Development Corporation, holds an annual camp in the country," he said. "It was like he was dunking on everybody. He was just tall and young - a beanpole. I just wanted to help him. He moved well and was genuine."

Nonetheless, Samuels, who is now 6-feet-9 and 245 pounds has greatly impressed universities. "In no particular order," replied Johnston when asked to supply the young guy's college list "Georgetown, UNC, St. John's, Duke, Louisville, Miami, UConn, Rutgers."
