German superstar commits to ISU

There aren't many surprises left in the recruiting game so when one happens, it's a, well...surprise. Iowa State landed a verbal commitment on Wednesday from an international 2007 men's basketball prospect that was anything but a well-known commodity on the market for the current recruiting year. But if he's as good as the indicators say he is, he'll be very well known in Big 12 circles before his ISU career is over.

His name is Lucca Staiger and he's only been living in the U.S.A. for a couple of months, moving from his hometown of Blaustein, Germany, to attend Decatur (Ill.) Christian and play there for head coach Alan Huss. Staiger is a 6-foot-5, 215-pound small forward and shooting guard combo prospect - a "big wing" as Coach Huss puts it - that may be a new name to a lot of us but is anything but to Cyclone head coach Greg McDermott.
