Arthur has chance to be special
During his brief tenure in Lawrence, Bill Self has signed a handful of McDonald's All-Americans. Players from Florida, to Alaska, to New York and other locations have ventured to Kansas in-order to play for Self and the Jayhawks.
However, a case can be made that none have been bigger or more important than Darrell Arthur. Of the final three schools on his list, none spent more time recruiting Arthur than Self and his staff.
There is no doubt that Arthur, the No. 16 ranked player in the class of 2006, took his time with the recruiting process. The 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward took official visits to Kansas, Indiana, North Carolina, Baylor and SMU. Additionally, towards the end of his recruitment, Arthur, better known as "Shady" to friends, teammates and coaches, took an unofficial visit to LSU.
"Well, you know Darrell didn't have to attract that much attention," said Self during KU's media day. "We went around the room yesterday (Thursday), and I talked about how long we spent actually really recruiting guys hard. You could add up the whole room and it probably didn't add up to Darrell, as far as the length of time."
