Dorrell talks to the media - Part I
Coach Karl Dorrell spoke with the media earlier today and he took questions on the Rice game. After looking at the tape Dorrell was pleased by his team's effort. Rice put on a valiant effort. After all these are D-I athletes and from Texas. It takes a special person to have the talent to play on the D-I level and it also takes a special student to attend Rice. The following is part one of a two-part talk that Dorrell had with the media.
Did you see anything you liked after watching the Rice tape?
Dorrell: "Yes I was pleasantly surprised actually, given what we did. I felt the defense played really, really well. There were a couple of plays in the game that we wished they could have taken back, the big long pass play and the long run, but I think the defense is off to a really good start. I'm really impressed with how hard those guys are playing.
"The defense did some really positive things. They had a lot more three and outs this past week than the first week and still had a pretty good third down ratio. Rice only converted two third downs out of 13. They were held to under 100 yards rushing and held to under 200 yards of total defense. There were a lot of positives.
"I think we are little hard on ourselves, which is good though, about the overall feeling of the game.
"We came back and watched the tape on Sunday and was very pleased with the effort. I think everybody played pretty hard.
