Conference Capsule: Game of the year?
Could the game of the year come in the second week of the 2006 season? Get ready. For the first time since 1996, the top two teams will meet during the regular season as top-ranked Ohio State faces No. 2 Texas in a rematch of last season's classic in Columbus. The Longhorns will play a No. 1 team in Austin, Texas for the first time in 56 years.
Yes, the stage is set for another classic, as fans are expected to pour through the gates to Mike A. Myers Stadium at 7 a.m. to prepare for the ESPN College GameDay broadcast at 9 a.m. that will feature the usual suspects - Chris, Lee and Kirk - plus appearances by Desmond Howard and ABC's Brent Musburger.
The 7:13 p.m. kickoff from Memorial Stadium will be televised nationally by ABC with Musburger (play-by-play), Bob Davie (analyst), Herbstreit (analyst) and Lisa Salters (sidelines) on commentary.
There is life after Vince in Austin. His name is Colt McCoy, a redshirt freshman who went 12 of 19 for 178 yards and three touchdowns in a 56-7 romp over North Texas. Ohio State beat Northern Illinois 35-12 last Saturday.
