To play or to redshirt

Texas A&M signed 17 freshmen in the class of 2006, and some of them will be looked upon to give an immediate boost to the Aggie lineup.

Mike Goodson
Goodson was the jewel of the 2006 class and head coach Dennis Franchione has already indicated that he will play this season. The running back has shown throughout August camp that he can become a 10-carry back this season and be counted on to spell Courtney Lewis.
E.J. Shankle
Shankle has been a pleasant surprise as a receiver in August and is poised to see time as a true freshman. He has very good hands and adds another deep threat to the Aggie receiving arsenal.
Matt Szymanski
Szymanski graduated a full year early from A&M Consolidated and the No. 1 kicker in the class of 2007 will be the No. 1 kicker at A&M this fall. Szymanski can change a game with his leg and will be a nice addition on kickoffs. He will also serve as the backup punter to Justin Brantly.
