Cox rests; defense dominates Sunday

With staring quarterback Brandon Cox watching most of Sunday's practice from the sidelines, Auburn's backup quarterbacks had an opportunity to show what they could do under fire.

But the results were rather ugly as sophomore Blake Field, and freshmen Neil Caudle and Steven Ensminger combined to throw six interceptions during 7-on-7, 11-on-11 and blitz drill.

"We weren't a well-oiled machine out there today, that's for sure," said Auburn offensive coordinator Al Borges. "We had to pull teeth today, and that's not good. We didn't improve offensively, like we should have."

Head coach Tommy Tuberville viewed it as a lost opportunity for the backups.

"When you get your opportunities, you've got to take it. We didn't do that today," said Tuberville.
