Both players made solid contributions at their positions last year and looked to be a pair of contributing skill position players in 2006.
Of course after the conclusion of the Rhett Bomar saga the two are now backfield mates and must become acquainted with one another.
Their lack of familiarity comes from the fact that at the point in time last year that Thompson was taking snaps from center rather than balls from the JUGS machine Patrick was putting 'hammers to bones' rather than juking linebackers.

Many have talked about the difference in leadership and belief that the Sooners now have in the quarterback decision. In spite of Patrick admittedly not being all that familiar with Thompson it's clear that he also carries a certain amount of respect for the fifth year senior from Leander, Texas.
"There is nothing like a team leader, that's what the team needs a quarterback that is going to be vocal and talk. He needs to be a guy that gets everybody up and keeps everybody together," he stated.
