Ducks land Matthews

It is expected that the Oregon Ducks will sign approximately six linebackers in their 2007 recruiting class - four on the interior and two at the outside "strong safety" position. Casey Matthews - a 6-foot-1, 220-pounder from Westlake Village, Calif., Oaks Christian - fits the inside linebacker mold perfectly for Oregon. Matthews made it official recently, giving his verbal commitment to the Oregon staff. Duck Sports Authority talked with Matthews about his decision.

"I just committed a couple of days ago to Oregon," Matthews told us. "I liked everything about it - the coaches, the facilities, the fans and everything! My parents loved it, so I thought it was a good fit for me."

Defensive line coach Steve Greatwood led the Ducks' pursuit of Matthews.

"I talked to him when I committed," said the Rivals.com three-star prospect. "They were really excited and fired up. They were real happy from what I heard. They had the preview day going on and I talked to some of the other recruits who were there and they said that the coaches were really happy."
