2006 ABCD Player Eval: Greg Echenique

Teaneck, N.J. -- Center Greg Echenique (Class of 2009, 6-9, 263-pounds) from St. Benedict's (NJ) was in action at the 2006 Reebok ABCD Camp last week and VUSports was on-hand to evaluate the young big. He is a very impressive prospect!

Strengths: Echenique played with a quiet efficiency throughout the camp. He showed a willingness to mix it up inside. He didn't back down to anyone and seems to enjoy contact in the paint. Though he isn't a great athlete, Echenique is surprisingly athletic for his build. It appears he could go one of two ways over the next three seasons of his high school career. He could hit the weight room, work on his quickness and leaping ability and develop into a player with the body to be a great 4 or 5 man at the college level or he could develop more along the lines of players like Casiem Drummond and John Garcia who added bulk and strength as they filled out but lost some of their athleticism. Echenique shows the upside potential to exceed the quality of play either of the aforementioned bigs achieved during their HS careers
