Florida DE has Pitt offer
As Pitt head coach Dave Wannstedt has gone about rebuilding the Panthers football program in his own image, one of the key positions that is in the midst of an on-going overhaul is defensive end. In his first season as head coach, Wannstedt showed what he wanted when he moved the bigger Thomas Smith inside to tackle and used converted linebackers like Chris McKillop and Charles Sallet on the ends.
Now, as Wannstedt puts together his second full recruiting class, he's still looking for defensive ends that fit his ideal combination of size and, perhaps more importantly, speed. 6-4, 245 pounds, and a 4.6 40 sounds like the description of Wannstedt's kind of defensive end, and this month he offered a player just like that.
Sheard, a defensive end at Hollywood Hills in Hollywood, Fla., currently has six offers, with scholarships from Auburn, Alabama, Arizona State, South Carolina, and Rutgers in addition to Pitt. In addition, he's still hearing from schools like Florida State and Miami, and the Sheard said that he has a particular interest in the Canes.
