Osby Looking Like an '08 Standout
Unlike in football, with some notably rare exceptions, prospects with outlandish talent in basketball get noticed and identified early on.
That's in large part to the exposure granted by summer basketball tournaments, and one player in the 2008 Class who is showing up in a big way this spring is Mississippi prospect Romero Osby, a supremely gifted perimeter player with outstanding size and a versatile skill set.
Osby (6-foot-7, 210 pounds), from Meridian, Miss., is overshadowed at times in hoops circles because his running-mate on his Jackson MBA AAU team is super-prospect Renardo Sidney, not only the consensus No. 1 player in the '09 class, but a prospect wearing the heavy label of 'next really big thing,' which his game warrants.
For fans flocking to see Sydney though, it's usually not long before they're looking for a roster to find out who the long, fluid wing-player is that's bringing the ball upcourt, knocking down three's and flushing big-dunks in traffic. That would be Osby, and though he's not the star of his squad, he's got too much ability to be termed a role player.
