NFL Draft 2007

The 2006 NFL draft was very good to Oklahoma. Six former players were drafted when many saw this as a down year for Oklahoma prospects in the NFL. Now that the 2006 NFL draft is behind us, we'll take a sneak peek toward 2007 and several pro prospects will begin their final seasons in Sooner uniforms. Will that list include Adrian Peterson?

Adrian Peterson

Peterson has unbelievable size and speed and pro scouts haven't seen this type of running back coming out of college in a very long time. Peterson can certainly be dissected heavily due to his receiving ability and his lack of experience in picking up blitzing defenders in the passing game. But those questions should be answered much more completely following his junior season. Running backs are not always seen as high value picks by NFL franchises, but Peterson is certainly expected to be a candidate for the top overall selection in the 2007 draft.

Any chance Peterson sticks around? Even Peterson has said there is a chance he could stay. But if he remains healthy for the entire 2006 season, scouts will likely assure him of a massive payday in 2007.

Larry Birdine

Heading into the 2006 season, it could be debated which defensive lineman on the Oklahoma roster is the most coveted pro prospect between Birdine and C.J. Ah You. NFL scouts will surely point to Birdine's family history as his brother, Jason Gildon, was a standout for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Birdine probably would have been in the NFL already if a torn biceps muscle hadn't sidelined him for the entire 2005 season. Birdine will have to work his way back into the mix in terms of NFL scouting directors. No one has forgotten about Birdine, but he'll have a chance to show how special he can be this season.
