Olsen excited about his role in revamped offense
A year ago, tight end Greg Olsen was taken out of some games by opponents' blitzes, forcing him to remain in as a blocker.
Will that change under new offensive coordinator Rich Olson's scheme?
Olsen thinks so.
"I'm excited," Olsen said. "You can ask any tight end -- they'd rather be a receiver. It's something they're making an effort on. The offensive line's pass blocking is coming along real well. When the season starts we'll be in good shape.
"The offense is coming along pretty well. We've put in most of the offense as of now. Now it's just a matter of executing and continuing to get better."
Olsen was asked whether he sees this offense ahead of where it was at this time a year ago.
"We've always really struggled (in the spring), especially on the weekend in scrimmages," Olsen said. "I don't even know if since I've been here we've ever really scored. And in the scrimmages we've had, we've had six touchdowns. I don't remember a year before where we've had half that. Our defense is probably one of the best in the country. Matching up against them, we'll have more success against other teams."
