Dominating defense

On Sunday USC held their annual Trojan Huddle spring scrimmage at the Coliseum.


The defense dictated the pace by constantly attacking the football, jarring it from the offense and putting it on the turf all afternoon long. They were led by linebacker Clay Matthews, who was involved in three turnovers and a blocked kick. Matthews talked to us after practice about how he and the defense performed.


"We thought we did great as a defense," Matthews said after the scrimmage. "Obviously the ball was everywhere on the ground, I don't even know how many turnovers we had.


"It started at the beginning of this week, we really emphasized taking the ball away and Coach Carroll stressed that to us. Tuesday in practice I think we had a dozen turnovers and Thursday the same thing and it carried over until today."
