Incredibly, the Bunker doesn't yet consider Derrick Moncrief one of the Tigers' 25 best players.

Fair enough. Just be ready to rank him five months from now.

Moncrief arrived in January after a reasonably successful, two-year stint at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He showed a lot of promise during the 2012 season, finishing with 46 tackles and three interceptions. His 2013 season was negatively affected by an injury, which limited Moncrief to eight games. He never made much of an impact because he never was able to get into a groove.

That is changing at Auburn. Moncrief remained healthy throughout winter workouts and dazzled observers throughout spring practice. He's a made-to-order boundary safety with an enticing mix of run-support and cover ability. Moncrief arrived with a reputation for physical play and only enhanced that image by lining up some major hits during 7-on-7 skele drills.
