'A good fit'

AUBURN | December always is a big month for coaching drama, but Gus Malzahn is doing what he can to exclude his name from those discussions.

Malzahn and athletic director Jay Jacobs hashed out the basics of a new agreement two weeks ago, which included a salary bump of $1.55 million per season. The new contract will include built-in escalators that make the contract worth approximately $27 million.

Malzahn has signed a letter of agreement, a placeholder deal used while new contracts are finalized, but the creation of revised contracts can take weeks or even months. Still, the Auburn coach is making it clear he's happy where he is and intends to stay there.

He was asked Monday about reports saying he'd be a good fit at Texas.

"I'm a good fit for the Auburn Tigers," Malzahn said. "That's why I signed the contract the day before the SEC Championship. Like I said before -- I'm tickled to death to be here."
