Ray ready for SEC debut

Mississippi State followed up its most disappointing loss of the season with its most convincing win.

MSU blew a 15-point lead at home to Alabama A&M and lost 59-57 on Dec. 30 but rebounded with a 97-46 victory over New Orleans four days later.

"I'm really pleased obviously with the result of our past game against New Orleans," said MSU head coach Rick Ray. "After the Alabama A&M game I think I stated that the best we'd played was the first 15 minutes of that game and it was a shame we ended up with a loss because everybody in the locker room knew during the semester break that we'd gotten better individually and as a team. For us to come out and play the way we did against New Orleans was good for our guys. They got to see all of their hard work come to fruition."

Now the Bulldogs are looking to carry that momentum into conference play tonight taking on South Carolina. The Gamecocks also made a coaching change in the offseason bringing Frank Martin from Kansas State.

So far South Carolina is 10-3 on the year and have won five straight. The Gamecocks have had success on the glass the season outrebounding their opponents by 9.5 a game.
