South Carolina preview

Mississippi State gets an opportunity to make a fresh start.

The Bulldogs begin Southeastern Conference play tonight hosting South Carolina at 7 p.m.

First year head coach Rick Ray has guided a revamped and thin MSU roster to a 5-7 record during non-conference play. The Bulldogs are coming off their largest win of the season last Thursday downing New Orleans 97-46 behind a career-high 17 points from junior forward Colin Borchert.

State is 44-35 in SEC openers including a 29-15 mark inside Humphrey Coliseum. The Bulldogs are 2-0 in league lid-lifters against South Carolina (1995, 1999).

Mississippi State leads the overall series against the Gamecocks 16-8 and has won six straight meetings. The Bulldogs claimed a 69-67 overtime victory in Columbia last year boosted by 16 points from Brian Bryant and double-doubles from Renardo Sidney and Arnett Moultrie.
