Jones returns to Iowa
Highly recruited Class of 2014 running back Jeff Jones has not been able to get to many college games this season, but he has now made it to Iowa twice. The 6-foot, 190-pound Jones made the drive from the Twin Cities with three friends yesterday to watch the Hawkeyes play Purdue. We caught up with Jones to talk about the visit, where Iowa stands in his recruiting, and much more.
Q: Can you talk about the visit to Iowa today and how it went?
JONES: It was a great opportunity just to be able to come down there and watch the game. The atmosphere was great with all of the fans tailgating and everything. It was a good experience.
Q: Did you get to talk to the coaches while you were there?
JONES: I talked to Coach Eric Johnson a little bit, but other than that we didn't get to too much because of the loss.
Q: Can you talk about that? As a recruit, does it make a difference whether a team wins or loses when you visit?
JONES: It doesn't make too big of a difference. I know Iowa can play and I know they like to run the ball. That's all that matters. With the loss that they had, I think they're 4-6 now, but every week they still get the same support no matter if they are winning or not, so that was good to see. That's good to know when picking a school.
Q: Where does Iowa kind of stand right now in your recruiting?
JONES: I really like Iowa. It's a good school. They have great linemen and they run the ball a lot, so being a running back I definitely like that. Coach Eric Johnson always shows me a lot of love, and it's a great school overall with good academics and a nice college town.
As a junior, Jones finished the season with 111 carries for 1,002 yards and 9 touchdowns. Currently, the Class of 2014 prospect holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Illinois, Iowa State, and Syracuse.
