HD: Saunders ties OU single game receiving record
Lost in the the disappointment of Saturday nights loss was one of the best performances in recent memory from a Oklahoma wide receiver.
Playing in just his third game in a Sooner uniform Jalen Saunders tied Ryan Broyles single game record of 15 receptions which was good enough for season high 181 receiving yards.
"I thought I did pretty well. I have a lot to improve on," said Saunders. "I can't just sit on this, despite everything I did tonight for my team. I feel bad for the loss, and I just hate to see it happen. We'll just have to get back on Monday and get get back to work."
For Saunders- who was cleared three weeks ago prior to making his first start versus Texas- Saturday's performance served as his official coming out party as he zigged and zagged through a stingy Irish defense.
But even despite a record tying performance it will be the loss that eats at him.
"Of course it is hard to see. I'm not a person to sit on my accolades, stats, or anything. I love winning- that's why I play football," said Saunders.
"I like playing with other people, I just like winning. It just hurts to lose a game like this because we've been preparing all week."
Oklahoma now heads back into Big 12 conference play as they head to Ames for a match-up with Iowa State.
Another bounce back game that Sooner captain Gabe Ikard knows will be a tough test in facing a Cyclone club that is no stranger to the role of the underdog.
"Something has still got to happen to Kansas State but we still have a championship to play for, for the most part. We've just got to keep a positive attitude towards playing those conference games," said Ikard. "(We) can't dwell on this too long we've got to go to Ames next week and it's a really tough place to play."
