Tech showing improvements

Those on the sideline were quiet. Those on the field were just going through the motions.

A booming 'Raider Power' chant came down to them on the sideline. At this point they were probably just thinking about showering, boarding the bus and taking the charter back to Albuquerque, N.M.

Texas Tech sunk New Mexico early Saturday.

How early?

The 2:06 mark of the second quarter when New Mexico's Chase Clayton returned a 98-yard kick return to cut the Red Raiders lead to 28-14.

Teams will always take points and maybe the return could have sparked some momentum, but in many ways a quick score was the last thing New Mexico needed. The Lobos declined at Tech offsides penalty on the kick to take the points.

But opposite the Lobos was an offense that had only stopped itself through its first two weeks and was proving the same thing again Saturday.
