Anderson talks upcoming visit
Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith outside linebacker Kanyia Anderson will be in Winston-Salem Sunday, July 15 for Wake Forest's football camp.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder, who is rated as a two-star recruit by Rivals.com, said the Demon Deacons are recruiting him heavily.
Anderson believes Wake is close to offering him a scholarship, and thinks a strong performance at its football camp would help him toward that end.
"They told me they're going to grab three outside linebackers from the [2013 recruiting] class," Anderson said. "They're losing two outside linebackers this year coming up and they're losing another one my freshman year, so they need some outside linebackers. What they want to see is how I fit their program."
He camped with the Deacs last summer, and said he can imagine himself as a student athlete at Wake Forest.
Jonathan Himebauch, Brian Knorr and Derrick Jackson are recruiting Anderson for Wake.
"I talk to him [Himebauch] maybe two to three times a week," Anderson said. "I talk to Coach Knorr sometimes, and Coach Jackson recently contacted me on Facebook a couple of days ago. He was excited about me coming down to camp."
He claims scholarship offers from California, Cornell, Furman, James Madison, Old Dominion and Richmond. The Spiders made their for Anderson official Tuesday, July 6.
"I want to go somewhere that's a good environment that I can function in," Anderson said. "I want to go somewhere where I have the opportunity to play and where I can have a good relationship with the coaches."
"I really like ODU. I'm still open. I'm kind of enjoying the recruitment. I like ODU a lot."
He is hearing the most from ODU and Wake.
Anderson hopes to choose a school a sometime this summer before the first game of his senior season.
He said his strengths as a player are his abilities to tackle and rush the quarterback.
Anderson added college coaches like that he takes academics seriously.
