Northwestern State preview
Mississippi State travels to the state capital tonight for their annual outing in Jackson.
The Bulldogs will host Northwestern State at 7 p.m. searching for their 11th consecutive victory this season.
"As I said a long time ago, it is a great opportunity for people to see us during the season that can't get a ticket here," said MSU head coach Rick Stansbury. "It is one of our largest populated areas and fan bases. Going down the night before has been good for us and gives a chance for people to step out and touch our players with the autograph sessions. So it's been great. I think there have been a lot of kids through the years that have been able to see us play that normally wouldn't that may have influenced where they go to school at."
MSU is 14-4 all-time at the Mississippi Coliseum dating back to 1962. Under Stansbury's watch the Bulldogs are 8-0 in Jackson. In fact, he coached his first game there in 1998 defeating Arkansas Pine-Bluff 105-53. Last year they downed Belhaven 101-76 in exhibition action.
State is 5-1 all-time against the Demons. Their last meeting took overtime to decide the outcome as the Northwestern State claimed a 76-75 win in 2005. The Demons rallied back from a 21-point deficit ending an 18-game non-conference winning streak.
The Bulldogs are 38-3 against teams from the Southland Conference.
