Florida Atlantic preview

No. 17 Mississippi State hopes to continue its winning ways tonight hosting Florida Atlantic at 8 p.m.

The Bulldogs are off to a 9-1 start to the season and have won eight straight games. However the Owls were able to upset MSU last year at Humphrey Coliseum which assuredly will have the team focused when taking the court tonight.

FAU handed the Bulldogs their first loss of the 2010-11 campaign 61-59. Brian Bryant missed a pair of free throws with 1.5 seconds remaining and Kodi Augustus last ditch basket was waived off after time expired.

That would mark the only time the two teams have met on the hardwood and the only time Owls head coach Mike Jarvis has faced State in his 23-year career. The Bulldogs do hold a 67-14 advantage over teams from the Sun Belt Conference including a 4-0 mark this season.

Mississippi State is coming off a record-setting 106-69 victory against Troy at home on Saturday. The Bulldogs tied a school record with 16 3-pointers including seven by senior point guard Dee Bost, one shy of the individual game mark. Bost led all scorers with 28 points and dished out nine assists.
